SUMMARY:Mental Health from the Sacred Desk: How Clergy and Leaders Can Address and Incorporate Mental Health in Their Work
DESCRIPTION:The Mental Health and Wellness Program of the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) prioritizes mental health justice and wellness equity for the upliftment of all people. As a part of this program initiative\, in collaboration with the National Convocation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)\, during Black History Month\, we are providing culturally relevant spaces to practice and discuss resources for Black mental health and wellness. \n\n\n\nStatistics show that clergy are often the first point of contact when congregants are facing mental health concerns. This is even higher in the Black community as historically\, the Black church was the only space to receive care. It is important for our leaders to know ways to reduce stigma\, normalize receiving mental health care\, and incorporate wellness practices in what they teach and how they lead. Join our panelists as they share the culturally relevant ways\, including sermons\, liturgy\, music and more\, to address mental health from the pulpit and in other leadership positions.

SUMMARY:Communal Mental Health: How We Care for Our Mental Health Together
DESCRIPTION:The Mental Health and Wellness Program of the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) prioritizes mental health justice and wellness equity for the upliftment of all people. As a part of this program initiative\, in collaboration with the National Convocation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)\, during Black History Month\, we are providing culturally relevant spaces to practice and discuss resources for Black mental health and wellness. \n\n\n\nSelf-care is important for our mental health\, but we also need communal care. Studies show that religion\, social and emotional support from family/peers/community\, and Black identity are some of the most significant protective factors for Black mental health. This panel discussion will focus on culturally relevant ways we can be intentional about our mental health care in the same ways we are intentional about our spiritual care and how we can do this work of care as a community.

SUMMARY:Looking for God Over Your Shoulder: Contemplative Practices for Older Disciples Series
DESCRIPTION:The NBA supports intentional innovative conversations about emerging needs and ideas by convening cohort groups of Disciples leaders\, creating space that allows for deepened effectiveness in resourcing the church on forward-leaning health and social service issues. \n\n\n\nAt the beginning of 2023\, the NBA called together an Innovative Conversation Group on Older Adult Ministries to understand how the NBA and the denomination at large could better support this population. \n\n\n\nThe NBA Innovative Conversation (IC) Group about Older Adult Ministries comprises leaders from Disciples health and social service organizations\, congregations\, regions\, and ecumenical partners. This IC group meets regularly to discuss and envision ministry opportunities with older adults in the life of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Their goal is rooted in innovation and progress at the intersections of health and social service ministry and the larger church: \n\n\n\nAs a continuation of this work\, we invite you to join Rev. Dr. Paul Koch as he leads a series from the recently published\, “Looking for God Over Your Shoulder\,†in four ZOOM meetings on Tuesdays January 16\, 23\, 30\, and February 6 at 11 a.m. CT. The hour will include guided scripture\, devotion\, prayer\, and sharing with older adult individuals and groups in mind. You can register for this event below. \n\n\n\nNote: To encourage participation\, these virtual gatherings will be Zoom meetings\, not webinars. Attendees will be able to unmute and share thoughts on camera.Â

SUMMARY:2024 Incubate Partner Applications
DESCRIPTION:The National Benevolent Association is accepting Incubate Partner applications from Disciples health and social service organizations. Being in partnership with NBA involves a multi-year relationship that includes a specialized menu of resources and support for your young ministry/organization. \n\n\n\nOur Partners receive up to four years of access to professional consultants\, opportunities for learning\, peer support\, and grant funding. In a spirit of mutuality\, Incubate Partners agree to share the story of their mission with the wider Disciples community and beyond. Together\, we expand the church’s understanding of and capacity for health and social service ministry as part of Christ’s work in the world. \n\n\n\nIn alignment with the NBA’s commitment to prioritize the work of reconciliation and anti-racism\, the Social Entrepreneurship Program is dedicated to supporting and uplifting social enterprises that are led by or serve historically marginalized\, under-represented\, and under-resourced people groups. In our efforts to dismantle white supremacy\, we are sensitive to Incubate Partner applications that are addressing systemic needs\, and place justice and equity at the center of their organization.
